Meeting interesting new people in many places
gives meaning to these many travel stories...
It is said that to infuse others with your enthusiastic vision, you should live every day with a passion for life. Whilst practicing as an architect for some 40 years in South Africa, I have been fortunate to travel the world – to some 120 countries – and experienced the magic of many interesting places.
These first-hand destination experiences I have shared with many prospective travellers over some 20 years in the industry.
As a keen travel photographer, I have captured memories of glaciers and deserts, white river rafting downstream of the Iguazu falls and landing with a ski-plane on Mt Denali. Meeting interesting people, some even in awkward places and situations, inspired me to start writing true to life travel stories; both of astronauts and orphans, of artists and artisans. Our newsletter @etcetera, has become a popular travel experience to some 3 000 regular readers over the past 15 years; not only have some of these travel journals been published in life style and
travel magazines, but have also been incorporated on international travel blogs like
EuroTravel and
Vagabond. We also participate on a weekly travel program on a national broadcasting station in South Africa.
To keep in touch with the ever changing trends in the travel industry, I remain an enthusiastic learner and have attended during the past 5 years the annual events of Travel Summits:
- World Travel Market (an International Expo of travel destinations and products in London, representing all continents)
- Travellers Tales’ Festival (a travel writing and photography symposium held annually in London),
- Distribution and Online Marketing & Social Media Summits in Amsterdam, Berlin, Bulgaria, London and Vancouver.
- Represented South Africa at ASTA’s International Destination Expo in Lima Peru.
- As only one of a few from Southern Africa, I was invited twice to the annual International Luxury Travel Market in Cannes.
Presently I serve as
- President of the Southern African Chapter of ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents),
- Past National Member’s Council of ASATA (Association of South African Travel Agents).
- Board Member of SURE HOLDINGS PTY LTD, Exco of SURE TRAVEL in South Africa,
and successfully run SURE Etnique Travel, as CEO since 1995, the ONLY Sure travel specialists in Central South Africa.
